Elon Musk has an idea for the future of autonomous vehicles, and he recently shocked the world with just how different his idea may be from the current idea of vehicles.
If you haven't heard already, Elon Musk recently unveiled a new electric vehicle with high-functioning autonomy, the Cybertruck. While it will not be available until sometime in 2021, the car has received over 250,000 preorders, with many still coming in. To add to the event Musk also introduced a futuristic-looking ATV that goes perfectly with the new pickup truck.
With the addition of the new Cybertruck, along with the new ATV, Elon Musk, in my opinion, effectively pushed forward his agenda of trying to electrify the car industry.
A little side note: this was not the only agenda. If you pay close attention to the naming convention of Tesla's vehicles (Model S, X, 3, and the soon to come Model Y, Cybertruck, ATV, and Semi), one may see that together it spells "sexy cars" or rather "S3XY CARS." If you don't know much about Elon Musk's personality, this is just a mini spoiler of what he has done.
When you think of a pickup truck that is armored, faster than a sports car, more equipped than a standard pickup, and can drive itself, an expensive price tag may be the first thing that comes to mind. However, Musk and others at Tesla are able to provide this to consumers for a starting price of $39,900. This new, and affordable, vehicle by Tesla is added to a lineup of other affordable, autonomous, and electric vehicles. Namely, the Model 3, Model Y, and now the Cybertruck.
With this unveiling, it is safe to say the future of autonomous vehicles is inevitable. One thing to pay attention to though is when Tesla is able to commercially achieve Level 5 autonomy. At this point, it may be too late to get an affordable, autonomous vehicle.
